What are some things you love about Uganda ?
What don’t you love about Uganda ?
What’s your responsibility to your country?
In our big group student meeting we talked about Uganda on 9th October. Lots of students on campus can’t wait to finish school and exit this ‘pathetic country’ and head out to Europe or North America . Reason: - lots of things in this nation disgust, frustrate and annoy them. Things like Potholes, dirt littered everywhere, corruption, lack of jobs, poverty, disease…It was generally an exciting time as we discussed these in detail. The question we later posed, what then is your role in making this the country you want it to be. Many had these big ideas which can only come with a little more money, knowledge, position…and felt inadequate to bring any change.
I think for many of us this is true, always feel inadequate to create a difference in our own lives and the lives of people God has entrusted to us- school, families and communities. It was good for us to look at Luke 2:52 and the development (thanks to Transforming Nations Alliance). We looked at how Jesus grew in 4 different areas i.e. Wisdom, Physically (in stature), Spiritually (favor with God) and Socially(favor with people). Even us, we can be deliberate in ensuring we grow in these areas. The truth is that it’s not the President who throws trash and makes your community dirty or the political system. Let’s do our part and then trust God to change the hearts of our leaders or better still raise leaders after devoted to Himself. Good attitude while relating with our families and community and eventually winning them to God- fully developed not looking at only one area.
Looking at people like Mother Theresa was a good one: she was able to accomplish a lot with limited resources - all she did was offer her heart for the poor children ofIndia .
Please pray that for all these students, they will allow God to use them in small and big ways, while at campus but also build life long convictions.
Pray that God would renew my strength even as I pursue what he has placed on my heart concerning the students and different people I meet with.

Miriam with the Navigators

It has been an interesting time of my life. Lots of decisions to be made and yet ensuring that I am open enough to hear what God is saying. Lately I realize that it is so easy to go on with life and not necessary stop to wonder, what is Gods take in this.
Prior to coming on training with the Navigators of Uganda, (It is a non-denominational lay-focused Christian Ministry. Our passion is to help people follow Jesus and become His disciples. Our heartbeat is equipping the converts to learn how to evangelize and disciple others. It is the heart for the individual that motivates us to teach on one-to-one basis in small groups. Through this approach, we
-Invest in personal time with individuals
-Influence people to follow Christ
-Establish new believers in their faith and,
-Train them to reach out to do the same)

I had so many questions to God which I needed clear direction. I think I forgot the fact that God has the best intentions for me and kept fretting about the way forward. I took time off and went home to my parents, to have quiet extended time with God concerning my decisions.
I am so glad that after waiting on God he brought scriptures on my heart that gave me direction. Having been involved with student work before, my heart was still beating for discipleship but I did not want to just assume it was where God wanted me to be. The Scripture was 2 Tim 3:16-17, God made it clear that I needed more training which I would use in life wherever I would go regardless of what I am involved in.
2Timothy 3:16-17, 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 has been a key verse for me. I look forward to having the word of God come off the pages for me. That it will influence every key area of my life. That whatever decisions and choices I make will be from an over flow of studying the Word and allowing it transform my life.
